Excerpt:

Makenna unbuttoned her jeans, pushed them down, and took them off altogether, leaving her standing there in an oversized, faded red and blue Penn sweatshirt that was just long enough to cover her panties. “You should get undressed, too,” she said, coming to Caden and starting on the buttons of his shirt.

Press and release, press and release. Until she was pulling his shirt from his dress pants and exposing his skin.

She gave a little moan and kissed the center of his chest. “Just like unwrapping a present.” She trailed a line of kisses and licks from one nipple to the other.

“Fuck, Makenna,” he whispered. “What are you doing?”

“Tasting you,” she said.

The words were like a blowtorch to his blood. He was hard in an instant. “We can’t,” he said, though his hands went to the back of her head, encouraging her, guiding her as she continued to kiss and tease and drive him wild with her mouth.

“We can if we’re quiet.” Slowly, she dropped to her knees and bared him to mid-thigh. She took his cock in hand and gripped him firmly, tearing a soft grunt from his throat. “I’ve been wanting you all day,” she whispered, her lips teasing his head with soft kisses. “Wanting to touch you and kiss you and hold you. I can’t hold back anymore.” She licked him from root to tip. Once, twice, three times. And then she sucked him into her mouth.

It felt so fucking good that Caden’s hands flew to her hair, digging in, grabbing hold. She moaned at the contact and pushed herself deeper, burying his cock in the back of her throat. The intensity of it nearly took his knees out from underneath of him.

Makenna pulled off his length. “Lay down on the floor.”

He was too far gone to debate the wisdom of having sex in her father’s house. He needed this. He needed her. He needed the connection and the coming together of the act. Caden locked the door, took the rest of his clothes off, and spread himself out on the beige carpet.

She undressed, too, all that beautiful red hair spilling around the bare porcelain of her shoulders and making him think of peaches and cream. And, fuck, he was starving.

Caden grasped his length. “Take me back in your mouth.”

He didn’t have to ask twice. Makenna settled herself between his legs and wrapped her lips around his cock. She sucked him deep and slow, than fast and shallow, her baby blues flashing up at him so fucking sexy. He needed to see her eyes, so he fisted her hair into a ponytail to keep it out of her face. He used his grip to urge her harder, faster, deeper. He needed it. God, he needed it. And she took it. She took everything he gave her and so much more.

“Fuck, Red, I’m gonna come if you don’t stop,” he whispered.

She pulled off him, her lips shiny and swollen. “I want you inside me first,” she said, already crawling up his body.

New Release: The Darkest Days by @LizaOConnor

By 1895, Britain’s Home Department was interested in using finger prints to identify criminals. Francis Galton soon realized that lifting prints was not the hard task. MATCHING was the problem. Thus, he began searching for a method to categorize prints so they could be readily matched to the print lifted (if it existed in their collection of prints).

While Galton was not the only one working on this problem, in 1895, his methodology was chosen to categorize the prints of the criminals in London.
First, known criminals were fingerprinted by going to the prisons.
The imprint of all ten digits were taken on paper or cardboard using common printer’s ink. These prints could then be examined with a magnifying glass, a microscope, or enlarged for greater detail by the use of photography.

Galton suspected that for each individual, their patterns remained through their entire life and appeared to be individually unique from all other and did not alter. (Galton would NOT state categorically they were unique, but he had not found a single case in which two people had identical prints. However, there was one case in a child’s print altered. A small bifurcation occurred somewhere between twelve and fifteen, thus altering his print.) Galton calculated the chances of two finger prints being exactly the same were 1 in 64,000,000,000. If three of the finger’s prints were taken and matched to a card on file, there was NO possibility they had identified the person incorrectly.
However, matching fingerprints to a stack of cards proved impossible until Galton created a method or classification that reduced the time searching for a match.  Galton classified fingerprints in three categories: arches, loops, and whorls.

Galton then further classified the other print details to assist in finding the exact one needed. He likened it to a directory of home addresses. First, you locate the street, then you identify the block, and finally you identify the unique number of the house.
And while taking and later reading fingerprints was a skill that required training, Galton believed it to be a teachable skill. And thus, it was adopted by Scotland Yard to assist in finding criminals.
In my novel, The Darkest Days, the highly educated and well connected young officer, Barns, has read up on fingerprinting and wishes to use it when he becomes the Director of Scotland Yard. Xavier advises him to instead bring the matter to the current Director of Scotland Yard, since Barns has many years before he should be leading anything. Then Vic tells him that Argentina has been catching criminals with the use of finger prints for years, so if he waits until he’s in charge of Scotland Yard, he’ll be far behind.

So Barns follows Xavier’s advice and discovers Director Stone knows all about Galton’s finger printing, and has only been waiting for him to establish the sorting of the prints for quick identification.
Impressed by the young man’s knowledge of fingerprinting, Stone puts him in charge of the implementation into Scotland Yard.

When the pot has too many cooks a feast can be ruined, and that’s exactly what happens with Xavier and Vic’s new cases. Each proves more complicated than initially thought with criminals dropping out of the sky, wreaking havoc upon Xavier, Vic, and their excellent employees. By the end, Vic threatens to open a school that teaches criminals how to stay out of each other’s way.
Worse yet, a treasured member of the staff is shot in the heart while attempting to save Vic and the Queen’s cousin.

Liza O’Connor was raised badly by feral cats, left the South/Midwest and wandered off to find nicer people on the east coast. There she worked for the meanest man on Wall Street, while her psychotic husband tried to kill her three times. (So much for finding nicer people.) Then one day she declared enough, got a better job, divorced her husband, and fell in love with her new life where people behaved nicely. EXCERPT
“Don’t lie to me.”
She shivered under that unrelenting gaze, and licked her lips, all too aware of how he tracked the movement. “It won’t happen again.”
“You’re right. Because I’m going to kill the bastard.” He kept stroking her skin, his touch doing strange things to parts of her body that weren’t anywhere near her neck. “Tell me his name.”
She wouldn’t, even if the man who’d hurt her wasn’t already dead. Even in their messed-up world, murder was a last resort—something to be avoided at all costs—not something you did for a woman you barely knew. “No.”
“Your father hasn’t been keeping what’s his safe.” Another stroke, this one closer to her jawline. “That’s his mistake—one I won’t be making as well. His name, Callista.”
Oh God, oh God, oh God. She had to get a handle on this now. She’d never considered herself one to crack under pressure, but this man put his hands on her and spoke in that quiet, confident way that promised violence to anyone who touched her, and she was dangerously close to losing control. Which kind of control was up for grabs, so she went with the least likely to reveal her secret.
She kissed him, her heels giving her enough height that she barely had to go up on her toes. Her lips brushed his, and for one interminable second she was sure neither of them took a breath.
Then his arms were around her, and he took the last step to bring their chests flush together and her back against the wall. Even knowing she should be panicking at being pinned, she slipped her arms around his neck and traced the seam of his lips with her tongue.
That was all it took.
He let go of her throat to cup the back of her head, and then she was in the middle of the single most devastating kiss of her life. His tongue stroked hers, claiming her mouth—her body—as his own. His hands stayed in place even as he continued the assault on her mouth, his touch headier than the nicotine. She arched against him, tilting her head to allow him better access, and he growled in approval.
Whatever she’d expected from this kiss, it certainly hadn’t been desire. Though desire was too tame a word. She’d felt desire before, and this wasn’t it. This was…need. All-consuming need that devoured everything in its path, leaving only destruction in its wake.

Candlelight Vigil
Over the summer, I read a newspaper article about a dead raccoon found on a sidewalk in Toronto who received its own candlelight vigil, flowers, and memorial. Not to mention, a hashtag and free press! You can read more about it here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/07/11/dead-raccoon-memorial_n_7776856.html

When my children were young, we used to drive down to Ohio to visit family. It was about a three hour drive. My children didn’t have video’s to watch nor video games at that time. Poor kids, right? So to keep them occupied we played the regular car games like ABC signs or State license plates. Sometimes, though we played… Name that Roadkill. Some were easy to recognize while others were just a guess. While it was a strange game, it did keep two kids occupied and me sane for many trips.
But when I heard about the Toronto Raccoon, I was a little ticked. I had already decided on using the roadkill to make a statement. Most people don’t even pay attention to roadkill as they drive on the roads, but millions of animals’ lives are ended by cars. I thought that if we dressed them up, maybe painted their toe-nails…it would make people take a second look and slow down.
Fast forward to writing Claiming a Cowboy’s Heart. I knew that I had to have my heroine do something this silly and crazy. Here’s a sneak peek at the scene where we meet the heroine, Michelle Alt and shows the poor animal.

EXCERPT:
With her floral shoulder bag hanging from her arm, Michelle Alt approached the dead raccoon. The smell overwhelmed her. Pinching her nose, she took deep breaths through her mouth. The full moon illuminated the intersection across from her school. People should learn to drive slower on this street. This time a raccoon, someday a child.
She squatted and dumped the contents of her purse on the asphalt. Removing the cheap dollar-store clothespin from her purse, she dealt with the smell and closed off her nose. The spring had just enough strength to press her nostrils together without hurting. With her hands free, she selected a yellow pair of sunglasses from inside her bag and slipped them on the raccoon’s face. A smile flitted across her lips.
“That’s a start.” Looking at the pile of junk sitting at her side, she removed a couple of more items, setting a red plastic cup with a paper umbrella next to the raccoon’s hand. Last, she inserted a small bottle of sunscreen between his arm and body then cleaned up the remaining materials, stuffing them into her bag.
It’s perfect. He looks like he’s resting in the sun. Another day at the beach for Mr. Raccoon. She glanced at her watch. Crap, I need to run. I hate asking Mom to watch my daughter for these little acts of willful disobedience. Thank goodness, she’s more than happy to watch Connie, even for, in her words, ‘a waste of time’. But I’m so thankful to have her helping me. I’d never be able to do it all alone. Standing, she slipped her bag over her shoulder, glanced down the street—no one in sight—and dashed off toward home.

A deep sigh escaped her lips. The porch light glimmered in the distance. Almost home and no one the wiser. I can’t wait to see what people think of this roadkill art. All caught up in her fantasy, she bumped into a brick wall. “Umph.” Michelle raised her gaze and locked on the fullest lips she’d ever seen. Are they as soft as they look?
“I’m sorry,” the wall spoke. “I didn’t see you.”
